Many women do wrong things in their intimate hygiene. Which rules must be respected and how do you limit the risk of irritation and infection?
Seven golden rules in intimate hygiene
- Do your intimate care in the morning and / or in the evening, but certainly not more. There is one exception: after sexual relations (and after you have first done a pee).
- Especially wash the outside and avoid the inside so as not to disturb your vaginal flora.
Internal vaginal showers are also avoidable, as well as solutions for vaginal use based on vinegar or antibacterial products. - Limit the use of a washcloth. Especially avoid letting it dry to reuse it the next day, as it may contain germs. The ideal is to use the palm of your hand and lukewarm water in intimate hygiene. Do not use soap because it dries out the mucous membranes. You can use special lotions if you do not exaggerate with them.
- After bowel movements, you can use wet wipes, and also during periods for a refreshing effect. But do not reach for them after every pee because in the long run they can be irritating.
- After intimate hygiene, dry yourself with a soft sponge towel that does not rub. Pat dry instead of rubbing dry.
- Put on fresh underwear every day. Avoid synthetic lingerie if you sweat a lot or if it is very hot. The same goes for leggings or tights.
- After bowel movements or after urinating, wipe yourself clean with unscented toilet paper. And always do that from front to back to prevent bacteria from spreading from the anus to the vagina (which puts you at risk of bladder infection).
